Homeschool Drawing and Painting

This class will cover fun and exciting drawing and painting lessons to build landscape and portrait compositions. Subject matter is based on student interests and we will explore the basic principles of color, perspective and composition in art. No prior experience in drawing or painting is necessary.

Clay Sculpture for Teens *New*

Learn the basics of sculpture, hang out with friends and make cool sculptures! This hands-on class will allow you to bring your art to a whole new level. We will create in a three dimensional, tactile way and learn the basics of what makes good sculpture…. but YOU get to choose what to sculpt. Tuition includes the first 25 lb. bag of clay, glazings, firings and use of classroom tools. Additional clay and tools are available for purchase.

Vessels and Animals: An Exploration of Handbuilt Ceramics *New*

Students will explore the exciting possibilities in the world of clay Handbuilding. Using techniques in coiling, slab rolling, pinching, shaping and texture, students will create vessels and animals from their imagination with guidance from the instructor.

Homeschool Cartoon Drawing

Do you read the Sunday funnies or watch Saturday morning cartoons? This class will cover how to turn simple lines and shapes into expressive characters that can be used to tell your own story. Draw classic to contemporary cartoon characters step by step and learn the basics of storytelling. No prior experience is necessary.

Storybook Making

What makes a great story? Why do you like your favorite book? These are questions we will explore in this class as we mix drawing, painting, writing and storytelling. Students will illustrate their stories from start to finish. No prior experience is necessary.

Creative Dramatics: Road Trip USA Plus Art

Travel from coast to coast through the United States learning about the states that make our nation great through story dramatization and art. Please note this class is only 9 weeks long. Jan. 13 – Mar. 10.

Gallery Alive Plus Art

During half of the class, students will learn the principles of Basic Acting and create scenes based on works of art. The students will also create the sets, props, and costumes for their scenes which will be shared in a Living Gallery at the end of the nine weeks. The other half of the class will be spent with an art teacher from Mark Arts where students will study the historical importance of the works of art around which their scenes are being created. Students will also create their own art each week. Please note this class is only 9 weeks long. Jan. 13 – Mar. 10.

Giraffe - Gayle

Drawing Animals

Students will study wildlife as they learn to notice and record proportions, textures and other physical characteristics. Students can bring a list of animals they would like to draw while exploring wet and dry mediums, such as charcoal, watercolor, colored pencils and pastel.

Ceramics for Youth

Formerly titled “Youth Potter’s Wheel”, this class will cover the fundamentals of working with clay. The first half of class will focus on handbuilding techniques to create unique, functional works of art by coiling, pinching and slab building. Next, students will learn proper wheel throwing techniques and explore beyond the fundamentals of working with clay.
