FICTION IN A FLASH: WRITING THE SHORT-SHORT STORY

14+ | March 16-20th M,W,F | 2 – 4 p.m.

Instructor: Dr. Siobhan Scarry

$95 – Try your hand at this super fun form of the short story in this three part workshop! Sometimes called flash fiction, sudden fiction, or micro-fiction, short stories that get the job done fast are of growing interest to current writers and publishers. We’ll read from some of the masters of the form – from Hemingway’s famous six-word story to fictions closer to one-thousand words by Lydia Davis, Rick Moody, Antonya Nelson, and others. We’ll spend some time figuring out what makes these stories tick, and we’ll do lots of in-class writing to produce our own flash fictions. The final class will be run as a writers’ workshop, in which students will receive feedback from both the teacher and their peers.
