Storybook Making

What makes a great story? Why do you like your favorite book? These are questions we will explore in this class as we mix drawing, painting, writing and storytelling. Students will illustrate their stories from start to finish. No prior experience is necessary.

Color Pop class - April Morgan

Color Pop: An Exploration of Hues (5-weeks)

Color Pop is designed for beginning artists ages 6-11.  We will explore primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, warm and cool colors, and monochromatic color schemes (hue, tint, shade).  Students will create paintings utilizing their knowledge of various color concepts. No prior experience is necessary. This class is five weeks long and meets September 27, October 4, 11, 18 and 25.

Pop Art class - April Morgan

Pop Art: Mid-Century Marvels (5-weeks)

The Pop Art movement was one of the most influential art movements in the last century.  In this mixed-media course, designed for beginner to intermediate artists, we will talk about the when and why of Pop Art.  We will also create pieces reflecting the styles of pop artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jim Dine, and Claes Oldenburg.

Kids in the Kitchen

Have fun in the kitchen!  We will learn kitchen basics about everything from appetizers to zesting and make yummy food.   Plus….you will take home a sampling of a new recipe every week that you made in class!

Youth Drawing and Painting

This class will cover fun and exciting drawing lessons to build landscape and portrait compositions. Subject matter is based on student interests, and no prior experience in drawing or painting is necessary.

Representational Drawing

As a class we will be drawing from life in a realistic style. We will be covering everything from perspective drawing to portraits. In this class the instructor will demonstrate drawing techniques of how to represent people, life forms, landscapes, environments and architecture. With directions to learn how to create scenic images with step by step drawing techniques.

Introduction to 2-D Graphic Design

Words, colors, and pictures…Graphic design is everywhere, from books to billboards to branding.  Intro to 2-D graphic design is for beginner to intermediate artists ages 11-18.  We will explore color, shape, typography, and visual hierarchy. We will also have a brief introduction to Adobe Illustrator.  Students will create pieces digitally and by utilizing their own knowledge of the fundamentals of graphic design.

Drawing Animals

Students will study wildlife as they learn to notice and record proportions, textures and other physical characteristics. Students can bring a list of animals they would like to draw while exploring wet and dry media such as charcoal, watercolor, colored pencils and pastel.

handbuilding youth

Ceramics for Youth

The first half of class will focus on handbuilding techniques to create unique, functional works of art by coiling, pinching and slab building. Next, students will learn proper wheel throwing techniques and experiment beyond the fundamentals. Clay is provided as students need it and a classroom set of tools is available. Students may purchase their own 25 lb. bag of clay for $21.50 and their own tool-kit for $21.50.
