Intro to Graphic Design - Tasha Jo Wentling

Introduction to Graphic Design: Illustrator & Photoshop (10-weeks)

This introductory design course will cover how to build simple vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator and explore basic photo editing and manipulation in Adobe Photoshop. Utilizing the elements of design, students will create a themed booklet that showcases the skills learned throughout this course.

Digital Painting Fundamentals (10-weeks)

This course is designed to help you understand the basics of digital painting. Students will learn the fundamentals of digital software tools, sketching with a tablet, and digital painting.  We will cover Photoshop basics, monochromatic painting, color mixing, coloring with layers.  Students will gain a better understanding for creating digital art. This class runs Sept 26 – Dec 5 with no class on Nov. 21.

Intro to Graphic Design - Tasha Jo Wentling

Digital Portrait Drawing with Tablets (10-weeks)

Students will learn how to draw portraits using a tablet and Photoshop.  Along with translating skills to a digital medium, we will cover the basics of portrait drawing, value, form, light, and touch on greyscale painting. Some experience with drawing, using tablets, computers and Photoshop is needed. Please bring your drawing tablet as they will not be provided for this course. Photoshop and computer access will be included in this class. This class runs Sept 24 – Dec 8 with no class on Nov. 24.

Introduction to 2-D Graphic Design (10 weeks)

Words, colors, and pictures…graphic design is everywhere, from books, to billboards, to branding.  Intro to 2-D Graphic Design is for beginner to intermediate artists ages 11-18.  We will explore color, shape, typography, and visual hierarchy.  We will also have a brief introduction to Adobe Illustrator.  Students will create pieces digital and by utilizing their own knowledge of the fundamentals of graphic design.  Photoshop and computer access will be included in this class. This class runs Sept 24 – Dec 8 with no class on Nov. 24.

Intro to Graphic Design - Tasha Jo Wentling

Digital Photo Editing (5-weeks)

Learn the art of photo manipulation, retouching, and compositing.  You will learn how to turn your photos into a work of digital art! Using the open-source imaging program GIMP, you will learn the user interface tools, the basics of image editing, simple adjustments, advanced techniques using layers and masks, working with the text tool, and preparing high-quality images.

Intro to Graphic Design - Tasha Jo Wentling

Introduction to Portraiture (10-weeks)

Learning portraiture is an ongoing process, but learning the rules for posing and lighting is imperative for a successful start. We will learn facial lighting patterns, posing dos and don’ts and the different genres.  We will discuss the knowledge needed to successfully photograph families, children, seniors, couples and individuals, headshots, and discuss different ways to be successful with in-studio, outdoor and on-location photo sessions. Students will enjoy hands-on learning with studio lighting as well as natural lighting but students should bring examples taken with their own camera during class time for discussion and instruction.

Intro to Graphic Design - Tasha Jo Wentling

YouTube for Beginners (5-weeks)

Explore the art of digital filmmaking by shooting and editing your own unique video. During this class students will learn how to film, edit and optimize their YouTube content. Topics include learning how to set up a new YouTube channel from scratch, choose the right channel name, create YouTube channel art and profile picture, optimize the channel and every video in the correct way, choose the best keywords, titles and tags, easily film, edit and upload videos, choose a camera & microphone that is right for you, light a video properly and create professional videos, present videos, know how to keep people watching your videos, create content for videos easily, create thumbnails that people will click on, put music in a video, and use the YouTube editor and Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the videos.
