Mark Arts



Mark Arts invites all North American artists to apply for the Kansas Watercolor Society National Exhibition, October 4 – December 14, 2019. 

The exhibition is open to all artists living and working in North America. Only original paintings in primarily aqueous medium (no water-based oils) on paper are acceptable. No computer-generated images accepted. Work must be ready to exhibit, created in the last three years, and not previously exhibited in a Mark Arts exhibition. Each entry must be wholly designed and executed by the artist. All artwork must be display ready with display hardware included (if needed). All work should be framed, matted with white mats, and glazed with Plexiglas. All works must be for sale.

The juror is Thomas W. Schaller, an award-winning artist, architect, author, and instructor based in Los Angeles. He has authored three books Architecture in Watercolor; The Art of Architectural Drawing, and in 2018, Thomas W Schaller, Architect of Light : Watercolor Paintings by a Master  by Northlight Books.  Artist Network has produced two series of instructional DVDs of his technique.

His work has been featured in watercolor masters’ exhibitions in over 20 counties and is in private and public collections around the world including The Johhan Museum of Art, Shanghai: The Watermark Museum, Fabriano: The Tchoban Foundation, Berlin: The National Museum of Watercolor, Mexico City: The Pacific Arts Foundation, Newport Beach.

A Signature Member of many arts organizations including the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, and Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Tom is a Brand Ambassador for Daniel Smith ,was appointed to the Advisory Board of American Watercolor, and elected Artist Member of the California Art Club and the Salmagundi Art Club, NYC.

A two-time recipient of the Hugh Ferriss Memorial Prize and president emeritus of the American Society of Architectural Illustrators, he is a founding member of North American Watercolor Artists.

Cash awards of $3,000 will be given, and patron purchase awards are also anticipated. Online submission deadline is 11:59 p.m. on August 12, 2019.
